I recently enjoyed the pleasure of getting to know the staff and surroundings of Brookdale Place at Willow Lake, a personalized assisted living and Alzheimers and Dementia care community situated just north of Indianapolis near Zionsville and Carmel. On the drive in to the facility, you’ll notice the easy access from I-465 and plenty of dining and shopping nearby.

Those shopping and dining spots are always an important element for seniors who desire assisted living, but retain a large degree of independence that allows them to partake of regular outings to nearby locales. During my chats with the staff and while watching them interact with the residents, I quickly came to understand how important that personalized aspect of assisted living is. The staff encourages each individual to enjoy the day and their freedom to the best of their ability, while – just like a family member would – standing by 24/7 to help the resident with whatever duties may be necessary.

This level of care is determined during sit-down sessions with the resident, family members and staff, and occasionally with input from family and facility physicians. In other words, it is largely the family and the resident that determines how much help each resident requires, and the staff adheres to those decisions, while maintaining the latitude necessary to maintain safety and health on a day-to-day basis. The goal is always to help with basic chores like bathing, dressing and medications, while helping them to maintain their privacy, independence and dignity.

For residents with Alzheimer’s and Dementia, Brookdale Place at Willow Lake offers specialized services for those with memory care issues. “Physical and behavioral issues as well as life history are key factors in creating daily routines and service plans for nursing home residents,” says Holly Koll, the Sales and Marketing Manager of the facility. “Brookdale’s Clare Bridge Alzheimer’s Assisted Living facilities provide familiar surroundings that offer a reassuring sense of safety and meaning to their days.”

As I continue on my journey of visiting every assisted-living facility for seniors in the Indianapolis area, I’ll continue to keep you updated concerning news and events underway at Brookdale Place.
