Indianapolis Holiday Safety Tips
Indianapolis Holiday Safety Tips
December 16, 2012
Joy and frivolity are a part of the holidays and I hate to douse the festivities with any negativity, but keep in mind that thousands of people are injured every year during what is supposed to be a season of peace. And many of these potential mishaps are lurking right in your home.

Here are a few things to keep in mind
as family and friends roll through your Indiana homestead.
Be Careful with the Candles!
After all, an open flame is an open
flame. It’s estimated that fires resulting from candle negligence
caused approximately 130 deaths and $360 million in property damage
over a three-year span. Don’t forget to blow them out when leaving
your Indianapolis home.
Kids, Pets and Shiny Things
Children and furry friends are likely
to mistake shiny, small objects for snacks. Keep those miniature
decorations out of reach. And, of course, mistletoe, poinsettias, and
holly berries are toxic.
Holiday Lights
Approximately 1,300 people end up in
the emergency room every year because of holiday light accidents.
Watch out for frayed wires, damaged sockets, and be careful with wet
conditions outdoors and electrical wires.
Ladders Are Evil
Whether indoors or outdoors, ladders
are in heavy use this time of the year as we all deck the halls. Make
sure to follow the weight limitations posted on the ladder and always
keep at least three sections of your body in contact with the ladder
at all times.
