How Indianapolis Baby Boomers Can Live to 100
How Indianapolis Baby Boomers Can Live to 100
December 24, 2012
A recent article on Yahoo! detailed
some research and advice on the what it takes for baby boomers to
live to 100. I thought it was intriguing information that you may
find worthwhile so I’m sharing it here.
A healthcare company surveyed
centenarians and asked them what they credited their longevity to.
They responded that spiritual activity, exercise, and maintaining
social connections were the key areas that enabled them to live long
and happy lives. They also suggested that adopting a healthy diet and
getting plenty of sleep were crucial elements of their well-being.
The survey asked baby boomers the same
questions, and while boomers generally seemed to be implementing
healthy decision in their lives, they fell short in a couple of areas
that centenarians strongly encouraged. While those who lived to 100
said they generally enjoyed at least 8 hours of sleep nightly, only
38% of baby boomers could claim the same. Additionally, 80 percent of
the older folks reported they regularly consumed a balanced meal,
compared to only 68 percent of baby boomers.
So, if you’re an Indiana baby boomer,
an Indianapolis senior citizen, or a family member interested in
helping an elderly parent or boomer parent maintain and grow their
health, encourage them to add a regimen of balanced nutrition and
plenty of sleep to their lives!

The two groups were much closer in the
other key areas: spirituality, social connections, and exercise.
Nearly 90% of each replied that they were in touch with family and
friends daily, while 60% of both boomers and centenarians said
spiritual activity (meditation and/or praying) and exercise were a
daily ritual.
Although I have quite a ways to go
before approaching my boomer years, this Indianapolis realtor, mom,
and fiance intends to keep these approaches and disciplines firmly in
mind as I age. I hope you will too!
