Resources for: Caring for Aging Loved Ones

October 14 | 10:00 am – 11:30 am (EST)

Being a caretaker certainly has its rewarding moments…and it is also exhausting. But as the old saying goes, “care for yourself first so you are able to care for others.” There are plenty of ways to find relief if you are caring a loved one and need a break to run errands, travel, or simply take time to relax. Respite apartments exist in many senior communities all around the city-this is a great way to explore care options on a more permanent level, too. There also adult day care centers that do a wonderful job caring for your loved ones, including Joy’s House and other local options.

Resources for: The Connection Between Exercise & Relaxation

September 9 | 10:00 am – 11:30 am (EST)

Can you remember a time when you left a gym or yoga studio after a workout and felt worse than when you walked in? Unless you injured yourself, I bet the answer is a resounding “no.” The reason is that when we move our bodies, we feel better b/c our bodies are made to move! According to an article from the Mayo Clinic, regular exercise can help prevent health conditions like stroke, type 2 diabetes, anxiety, arthritis, and reduce risk of falls among other things. There are plenty of (inexpensive) exercise options and facilities in Indianapolis, including the YMCA, several Yoga studios, massage, and meditation facilities. Hear about the importance of movement at every age and some local resources to get you moving at the next Indy Senior Living Series!

June 2021

Resources for: Hoarders (Asking for a Friend)

June 10 |10:00-11:30 a.m. EST

One of the most overused buzz terms recently is “hoarder.” However, there may be truth to the phrase for some of us. Did you know that storage facilities are the fastest growing segment of the commercial real estate industry, according to New York Times Magazine? We do not like to get rid of our things even though Psychology Today says that de-cluttering is energizing and reduces anxiety. Hoarding causes depression and anxiety. It can also cause tension in our most intimate relationships.

April 2021

Resources for: Affording Life After Retirement

April 8 | 10:00 am – 11:30 am (EST)

How much money do I need for retirement? The answer is, “It depends.” It depends on a lot of things-How do I want to live after retirement? What things will I want to do, what places will I want to visit? Where will I live? How much will the cost of living be when I retire? The answer to this question varies from person to person. Many of us are lucky to have pensions, disability pay, or retirement accounts, while others must depend solely on savings, retirement accounts, and other assets like real estate. Regardless of how and when you retire, it is important to think about it and plan early. This will alleviate stress so that retirement is relaxing and maybe even a time when you explore all the places and things you have been waiting years for! Join us for the Indy Senior Living Series this month where we will talk to industry experts about planning for retirement with a customized plan that fits our specific plan.
