What Baby Boomers and Older Adults Should Consider When Downsizing
March 18, 2012

When we begin to contemplate the idea of moving into a smaller home from the house we have lived in for several years, there are crucial decisions that need to be made; and suddenly the downsizing process is more overwhelming than we ever imagined.  Over 10,000 baby boomers retire everyday, according to Forbes, which leaves a lot of people with very complex downsizing projects on their hands.  Furthermore, some folks are also managing the care of elderly parents, aunts, uncles, and other loved ones.

That’s what this blog is all about: helping Indianapolis, Indiana senior citizens and baby boomers – perhaps just like you – navigate the nuances of downsizing in this volatile real estate market.  Along with getting the best value for a current property and finding and/or financing a new home, there are plenty of other issues that affect a person’s decision to downsize.

Things like how to effectively move from a large home into something smaller (in some cases), the different types of 55+ communities, and which of those communities are Medicaid-friendly or exclusively private pay, and what to do with all of the stuff that does not make the move.  We’ll also look at important factors like the makeup of each senior community and the activities and events that take place at each senior living community.

I’m an experienced Indianapolis, Indiana real estate agent, certified in two areas of senior real estate (Senior Real Estate Specialist-SRES® and Certified Senior Housing Professional-CSHP®) and the owner of the Indy Real Estate Experts  at Century 21 Scheetz.  As such, my passion is real estate and helping find people homes that are perfect for them, then figuring out how to get them there! I hope you’ll enjoy this blog and find it a useful tool as I guide mature adults and baby-boomers through the trials and tribulations – in addition to the fun and excitement – of the next chapter of their lives.
